Checking in with everyone from VFN

Hi Everyone,

As I sit here with my dog Poppy in my 645 sq. ft. apartment, I am thinking about all of you.  It certainly is a time of uncertainty for all of us.  The news that California is in a statewide stay at home order due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, makes it harder for us to stay in touch.   I’m going a little stir crazy in my 645 sq. ft. apartment.  I’m walking the dog, watching TV and reading.  I’ve even decided to cook!!  My freezer is stocked with soup, pasta sauce and some frozen meats.

I had some muffins, sausage and cheese left over from the book club meeting that I had a couple of weeks ago, so I froze them.  My intention was to take it to Stitch & Bitch.  Unfortunately, I have pulled all that out and have been eating it.  I ate two Costco muffins yesterday and you know how big those are!  I need to take my mind off eating so I decided to reach out to all of you with this question:  WHAT ARE YOU DOING WHILE YOU ARE HOME?  Maybe you are doing something that is better than I am doing.
I pray you and your families are safe and healthy.  We will get through this!  I can’t wait to see all of you again at our general membership coffee and events.  Let’s stay in touch 😀

We are at our house. Puzzles are what we are occupying our time with. We have always maintained necessities in case of an emergency. Hang in there everyone.

Judy, Thank goodness for Costco muffins. I have 3 left. We should limit ourselves to one per day. I am
Doing the same as you. I did finish CRIMINAL DEFENSE,, April’s book. So now I will start the March book that arrived by mail the day after book club. I ran out of. FRITOS. What is with the paper goods shortage among many other things?
Stay safe and keep on keeping on. Juanita

Hi Judy and all VFN family, I’m going crazy with cabin fever of course, like everyone else. I miss hugging my grandchildren so I use facetime to help them with their homework. Gene and I are doing a lot of ‘spring’ cleaning. I have picture albums that need a lot of work. I am also doing a jigsaw puzzle which is great when I want to take a break from reading. I’m reading a great book with Ava (11 year old granddaughter) so we can talk about it before she takes her AR test. It’s called “The War That Saved My Life” It’s a young adult book but about WWII and the evacuees. Another good book I’m reading is “America’s First Daughter by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie. It’s about the life of Thomas Jefferson as seen through the eyes of his oldest daughter Patsy. It’s almost 600 pages and a bit long for our book club unless we read 1/2 one time and 1/2 the next time.
Of course, I’m looking for new movies to watch on Netflix,Prime, Britbox or HBO. Any suggestions. I love the detective series’.
I miss our activities with my VFN new friends. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you that involves not leaving the house. 😁 I think it’s so important that we all self isolate so we can get through this as soon as possible. I hope you are all well and staying safe. Judith Ernst

    Hi Judy and all.

This reaching out is a very good idea. I am reading, watching some mysteries on Netflix and Amazon Prime, cleaning out some drawers and closets and feeling very thankful I feel good. My daughter in law Heather and our across the street neighbor have delivered some grocery items to us. Believe me Judy, I have thought of those Costco muffins and really, really wished I had at least one of them. Duane has gone to the store twice and found the shelves almost bare. It may be a little better now. I am texting my granddaughters and saw one of them on my sidewalk when her mother came to deliver groceries. I immediately burst into tears, so I guess I am more “stressed” or “something“ that I thought. I am worried about my family reunion in Maine in July and August. And my cruise from Boston to Montreal afterwards. My mantra is Just Wait and See. Things and events have been cancelled but I still don’t see any refunds. Actually, I am kinda enjoying taking a shower and putting on clean pajamas for the day. But, wondering when things will be back to normal. I realize I don’t have the entire membership in my address book, so will work on that. I am sending this to the BookClub list, plus a few others.
The sun is shining today and that makes it harder to stay inside. I think we may take a drive, get some hydrogen for our car and drive through a “drive through” to eat something different. I miss our lunches and am very tired of cooking and planning what on earth to eat!! It’s hard to imagine a few more months of this, but overall I think I am doing pretty well. Love to catch up with al of you via email.

    Take Care, Sandy

After 30 years I decided to do some needlepoint again! I sent away to Amazon for a kit. I have a new grandson coming in August so that spurred me on to get back into it also. I hope it can help me get through the isolation of the coming weeks/months and I hope I am still good at it!
    Stay safe and take care.

Hi Judy, so good to hear from you! Like you I’m so grateful for my lap-pet, but mine is a kitty. So far, I am doing OK at home. I walk, do u-tube chair yoga, read, watch tv and my DVD collection, crochet on my afghan, and I’ve started one of those1000 pieces jig-saw puzzles….I must be crazy on that one, but it makes the time fly. I am hoping to start sorting through all my old photo albums and boxes of loose photos. Ye, we will all get through this together. In the meantime, it helps me immensely if i limit the tv and internet news, and try to be grateful for all that I have each day. Everybody, take care, and keep well. Judy, don’t feel guilty about eating those muffins. Sharon H.

    Hello Judy,
Oh, the Costco muffins sound divine! I have some Sprouts oatmeal cookies in the freezer that I’m doling out to myself!!
One a day and I drink an incredible amount of water!! As I became a breast cancer survivor I “celebrated” by giving up my precious red wine and gave my liver a break too! (10 years!)

My granddaughter, Amelia, who lives in Portland, Oregon, and I are playing Scrabble on our iPads! It can be started and stopped at any time for a break and it’s amazing how creative one’s vocabulary can become! And any age can play!

I envy you having your Poppy as a companion since my little Sadie went to Puppy Heaven a couple of years ago and she was my true soul mate in difficult times. Give Poppy a hug and snuggle from this “puppy person!”

Best wishes and look forward to seeing you soon,
    Susan Franklin xo

and send them certified (still time) I purchased a stationary bike trying
to exercise really out of shape my foot is almost back to normal and the
gym closed Are you walking your new room mate? that has to get you
out and about and don’t you have a board meeting soon? Does the 10 ft

    What have I been doing?
Staying home, cancelling my memberships for gym, country club, various groups, let my housekeeper go, ( that was the hardest) stopping family and friends from visiting, trying to follow presidential guidelines, running out of drinking water, learning how to make hand sanitizer, sold my car, renewed what Rx meds I could, trying to be prepared for the long haul, and trying to keep my wits about me as I continue to care for our home and my hubby who has Alzheimer’s and Dementia while I try to keep up with the latest on the coronavirus. I have started deep cleaning our home while struggling to keep up with the daily grind. Other than that, not much. Grin.

Enjoying some time at home. Reading, Bible study, working in the yard between the rainy days. Have done several jigsaw puzzles. Sorting items ready for the thrift shop, Clearing file drawers of ephemera, some dating back 10 years. 😀. Watching TV only long enough to keep up with the news and then switch to the Comedy Chanel. Feeling good. I do miss seeing you all. Take care and be well. 💕
