May 2016 President’s Message

I hope all VISTA Friends and newcomers are benefiting from our extra activities. Coffee is our”coming together”, but the side groups are what really helps our friendships.

We had our yearly election last coffee. Our new officers are pretty much of an extension of last year’s , with some exceptions.

It will be interesting to see how we use our scarves in the future. The scarf group that met at Karen’s was a hoot.

Our yoga meeting inspired several members to go stretch after our April demonstration. So easy.

May coffee will be a tea put on by the exec committee to show our appreciation for the participation of our members.

See you in May

April 2016 President’s Message

March was a good month for Vista Friends and Newcomers. Wasn’t the ‘Scarf Lady’ a good program? She was so energetic and had so many different styles for her many scarves. A couple of our ladies who purchased her video presentation have already shown up to our functions with new scarf ideas. There will be a workshop coming up in the near future on doing interesting things with scarves.

Our outing to CHARMING CHARLIE’S and the Cheesecake Factory was fun. I find that I don’t shop the malls the way I used to….Charming Charlie’s was an inexpensive and such a tempting shop that was new to me. I go back decades with the Cheesecake Factory. It started making cheesecakes in an industrial development in Woodland Hills. It was a tiny shop. They had a change in their business model and have really been successful as a restaurant.

Brunch Bunch went to I HOP for a change in venue. The same members join us wherever we meet. Back to the Pantry this month.

The Happy Hour is doing well. Judy is taking suggestions for future outings. Join us for a happy hour. Husbands and friends enjoy this event. Alcoholic drinks are not a necessity. Judy and Troy are scouting each month for new places to go. It’s good of them to try new places for us. They don’t eat at home much. Singles can enjoy being happy, too.

Thanks to the members who are suggesting events for our group. We have had more ideas lately than days to schedule them.

Our program at our April coffee will be another with our meeting after the yoga demonstration. So we will be eating after exercising. I hear it is not heavy duty exercise..

See you in April

March 2016 President’s Message

This month’s coffee will be the scarf lady followed by recognizing our club s founding in 1990 -1991. Refreshments will be second.
We started out when Margo DeVol and Jo Keller gathered some friends together to make new friends and meet new people in the new areas of Vista. They started out as WELCOME WAGON, but by the middle of 1991they changed to VISTA FRIENDS AND NEWCOMERS.
Do you recognize any of these first members from 1990 -1991?

Jo Keller and Margo DeVol, Charlene Mirrett, Rita O’Brian, Barbara Noel, Tara Everett, Mary Watson, Jo Finkelstein, Ruth Scott, Rita Ahl, Virginia DeBoer, Barbara Kirch, Jeanne McCloskey, Gerry Barton, Grace Holmberg, June Barron, Niki Blethen, Juanita Williman, Carol Blankenship, Shirley Wolf, , Pat Sweet, Judy Patterson, Maureen Tutino, Liv Jenkins, Doris Lighty (Teich), Judy Wojtynek

I’m happy to say that some of these ladies are still members. 26 years is a lot of loyalty.

Our bus trip to Viejas Casino and outlet mall was a big success. Thanks to Linda Mueller who put it together. Friends who went on this outing were ready to go again soon.

The nominating committee is in action. Let Virginia Hueth know how you would like to serve, either as an elected officer or a chairperson. Board members attend board meetings and are a necessary part of our club. Please help.
