August 2016 President’s Message

Did you notice we had four new guests last coffee? Wilma had the Tribune print an Invitation and we had good responses. (also a couple of resident men who left after they got their cookies) Hey, your dues are paid, now come and join in our activities. We haven’t seen some of you lately. Yes, we know it’s time for visiting families and far away places. We will be holding a BINGO PARTY for the residents of ARCADIA PLACE on Monday, SEPTEMBER 19th. This will be a thank you to the residents for letting us use their facility for our meetings. We will be giving cash to the winners, so we want enough Newcomers to help it go smoothly. We do appreciate the use of their room. Please lets have some volunteers. You do not nee.d to be on the board, or a chairperson to be of help. Judy, the new social director of Arcadia Place, gave us a warning that they have their own way of playing BINGO. We will have to find out about this. She will advise us, but it was a warning. Could someone make up a flyer to hand out to the residents? It will be a festive occasion , as we have not interacted much with the people who live there recently. Please volunteer to help with this special day. Let Juanita know you can help make our gratitude known.

Happy Summer, Juanita

July 2016 President’s Message

I’ve been thinking it’s too hot to ———. Evidently it was too hot to cook the night we had a huge

group for our LETS EAT OUT group. It was good to see lots of husbands joining the

ladies. They talk almost as much as the ladies. We should do something to encourage couples to participate with us. What could we do? It’s been years since we did the Harbor Dinner Cruise.

It was good to see seldom seen faces at the installation luncheon. We filled the room even though several of our regulars were on vacation. Thanks to the phone committee for reminding us of the luncheon and its dues time. If you bring in 2 new members to our If you bring in 2 new members to our group, you will get your dues refunded. (just a reminder.

We were sorry to have Jill Landon leave us to return to Scottsdale. She spent a year on our board.

It would have been good business to have the Kleenex concession at the June movie. What will we see next time? Looking forward to lunch after the movie. The theatre wanted us to have lunch first in June,as they just had an afternoon showing for us.

Book club attendees had best start reading “HAMILTON”. our September book. It’s the longest book we have ever scheduled. This is just a hint. Reading from a Kindle is lighter weight, but just as long.

June 24

June 2016 President’s Message

It’s time to thank all the worker bees who have volunteered this year to make our FRIENDS and Newcomers group work smoothly. We sometimes don’t even notice our workers in action. Our chairpersons and officers deserve a round of applause.

We had our appreciation tea at our May coffee for the good participation from members put on by the board. We really do a good job in making our meetings happy occasions when working together.

Get your reservations in for the INSTALLATION LUNCHEON at the HUNTER RESTAURANT in Oceanside on our regular meeting day in June. We will each pay for our meal at the restaurant that day. Put your order in from the selection in the newsletter . (see page 5)
This will save a lot of paperwork in the planning. We will have a private room and good food at a reasonable price.

Dues are due this month, as well for those who haven’t paid yet. Lets all get them paid so we can get the yearbook out on time. We have a contest going to get new members. Bring two new members into the club and get your membership paid for the year.

We have a new lunch group meeting at members homes. I think they’re going to be looking for people to substitute whenever the regular members can’t make it. Call Bunny Hallstrom for more information. Sandy Stevens is starting a movie going group, also. If you have an idea or a wish for companions to do something with you, lets find you others with similar interests. I heard an idea that we could go out of town for a day or two. Where could we go? What could we do?

With Summer coming on, members have already started traveling. Show up for things when you are in town so we don’t have too many empty spaces. We will miss you if you’re not around. But, we know you are just gathering stories to tell us when you get back. See you at the INSTALLATION LUNCHEON.
