A SPECIAL TREAT FROM ONE OF OUR TALENTED MEMBERS:

VACCINE, VACCINE

The time went fast The time went slow
It came out of the blue That’s all I know

Coronavirus. Pandemic,
Covid 19, Wow!
We had to change our daily lives, but We didn’t know how

Adjusting to being home How long would that last? Everything we knew
Was gone in a flash

Zoom at first was totally unknown
But soon it was mainstream, just like the cell phone Book clubs, plays, friends, sharing virtually, for Goodness sake
Ha! Turns out, the learning curve was a piece of cake

I had my daytime pajamas & my nighttime ones too When I did get dressed I didn’t wear anything new
Old clothes seemed to work out just fine
Cleaned out closets & drawers, but not my keepsakes, I Mean, they’re mine

Growing tomatoes, herbs & writing a bit
Reading was great and was a great hit
As they say, so many books, so little time
And eating! We did a lot of takeout, because we do like to ) Dine

I lament my granddaughter’s loss of the school year I lament my lack of hugs and admit, I shed a tear
I feel sorry that my granddaughter’s dreams have to Change

And because I love them, I feel their pain

Yes, I felt sorry for myself, but then
I haven’t died, so that’s a win win
Oh vaccine, vaccine, hurry up, the world needs you – that’s A fact

The ladies in Vista Friends and Newcomers want their lives Back on track

New Member Activity/Group: Curious Gals

A new group called the CURIOUS GALS will meet Monday, August 31, at 7:00pm. Our meeting will be via ZOOM and will last for 40 minutes. We will discuss any and all topics (except religion and politics) which members bring forth. We will meet every Monday in September with the exception of Labor Day. We are flexible with time and day if members so wish. Perhaps a breakfast or lunch meeting on a different day so all members will be able to attend. Suggestions are welcomed. Contact Linda or Marilyn  for more info.

Shows to Watch

Shows to Watch

If you have Amazon Prime, here are some shows & movies you might enjoy:

Bosch – seasons 1-6 are available now. Season 7, the final season, is being filmed starring Titus Welliver. These are not reenactments of a Michael Connelly Book, but rather a composite of several books.

Murder Made Easy – Joan and Michael host dinner with friends – one at a time – and murder is on the Menu.

The Pale Horse – A two parter based on an Agatha Christie novel. A rich man is devastated with the death of his wife. Witches at the Pale Horse Pub can take care of pesky people who don’t die and leave an inheritance. DON’T WATCH AT BEDTIME!!

Endeavor – Season 1-6 are available. Endeavor, The Young Rookie (from the long running series of Inspector Morse), is at the beginning of his career. Refined Oxford educated has a mind for 1960’s Britain’s crime. Season 7 is playing on KPBS currently.

Ruth Rendell Mysteries – bestselling author Ruth Rendell and a raft of famous guest stars, offers intrigue and suspense at every turn in the self-contained thrillers. See Colin Firth (before he was Mr. Darcy!) and other guest stars.

PRESIDENT LETTER TO MEMBERSHIP

Hello Everyone, it seems like forever since we have been together.  So, I have some GREAT NEWS to share with you!

ZOOM GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING ON THURSDAY, JULY 9TH, 10:00 A.M.

Yes, you read that correctly!!!!!  Since we cannot be together for our regular meetings at Peghas’s Kitchen we are going to try a ZOOM Meeting.    If you would please RSVP to me at:  beaumontj66@gmail.com I would greatly appreciate it.  I will be sending each of you that RSVP the link that you will need to join the meeting once I set it up.

I know that some of you have never used Zoom on your computer but don’t panic.  Our Webmaster, Elizabeth DeBoer is ready to help you.  Give her a call or send an email to her, she’s in the yellow directory you received.  She is the Guru of IT and she wants to help you so you can participate in ZOOM meetings.

We are also going to be installing the new board that you elected in May.  You will not want to miss that.

Vista Friends and Newcomers

I hope everyone is staying safe and staying home.  I pray that this situation will soon end so that we can get back to normal.  What is normal?  For a lot of us some things will change for sure.  This stay at home has for many changed how we view what we call normal.  For me, it means connecting with family and friends more, being thankful for what I already have, supporting local small business, patience, cooking, walking the dog and actually seeing the world around me, the blue skies, the flowers I planted, the nurses and doctors caring for the patients and finally, taking time just for me and appreciating the small things like reading a book or the phone calls from my pastor checking in with me.  It truly has been a time for me to reflect on the future which is going to be different after all of this has gone away.  Whatever your normal was, perhaps some things have changed for you.  I hope, for the better.

Have some great news to share!  The board has decided that your dues for 2020-2021 will be cut in half to $12.50!!  We really want you to take advantage of this offer.  We are not going to be locked down forever and as soon as we can, we will be starting our many activities.  Dues should be sent to Membership Chair, Sandy Stevens. For the first 30 members who pay their dues you will receive a token of our appreciation, an herb plant.  Oceanside members can pick theirs up at Linda Mueller’s.  She has a covered patio area and plants will be out there for you pick up.  Vista members can pick theirs up at Treasurer, Yolanda Hayden’s.  You may also pay your dues directly to Yolanda if you wish.

The board decided and voted to temporarily suspend updating our website until January.  Since we have no activities scheduled there is nothing to update.

The board decided and voted on continuing with our current board until we can get together to conduct an installation of the new board.

Your membership is important so PLEASE take this opportunity to rejoin at half price.  We do a lot of fun things throughout the year and YOU being a part of that means a lot.  This also is a chance for you to invite a neighbor or friend to join with you because the dues are HALF.

I can’t wait to see all of you again.

Checking in with everyone from VFN

Checking in with everyone from VFN

Hi Everyone,

As I sit here with my dog Poppy in my 645 sq. ft. apartment, I am thinking about all of you.  It certainly is a time of uncertainty for all of us.  The news that California is in a statewide stay at home order due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, makes it harder for us to stay in touch.   I’m going a little stir crazy in my 645 sq. ft. apartment.  I’m walking the dog, watching TV and reading.  I’ve even decided to cook!!  My freezer is stocked with soup, pasta sauce and some frozen meats.

I had some muffins, sausage and cheese left over from the book club meeting that I had a couple of weeks ago, so I froze them.  My intention was to take it to Stitch & Bitch.  Unfortunately, I have pulled all that out and have been eating it.  I ate two Costco muffins yesterday and you know how big those are!  I need to take my mind off eating so I decided to reach out to all of you with this question:  WHAT ARE YOU DOING WHILE YOU ARE HOME?  Maybe you are doing something that is better than I am doing.
I pray you and your families are safe and healthy.  We will get through this!  I can’t wait to see all of you again at our general membership coffee and events.  Let’s stay in touch 😀
